Retirement Ceremony for Unserviceable US Flags. Regan Park Palestine Texas. On June 14, 1923 President Harding formulated the 15 rules for the proper use and care of the US Flag at the National Flag Conference. The American Legion for 100 years has been the nation's leading educator and authority on flag etiquette. We honor our flag today in a proper service of tribute, memory and love. As our Flag becomes faded and worn it must be honorably retired from life. We are of the opinion that The American Legion’s Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags is a dignified tribute to the U.S. flag and to its symbolism. We therefore conclude that this ceremony is both legal and proper, and that it is an effective instrument for promoting enhanced respect for the U.S. Flag Ceremony for the Disposal of Unserviceable Flags. We would like to thank all who participated in our annual ceremony today American Legion Post 85, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 85, VFW Post 8924, VFW Auxiliary 8924, Sherriff Rudy Flores, and the Palestine Fire Department. The United States flag was and remains today a symbol of freedom. May God bless America and God bless the flag of the United States. May it forever wave.
